Tours are from the last
Saturday of May thru the 1st weekend on July. All tours will end at
the corner of South Mount Pleasant and East Claiborne by the William
Harrison Mural of the Mob Scene of "To Kill A Mockingbird".
WHERE ARE THE REST ROOMS?
Inside the Chamber of Commerce Office and the Old Courthouse.
All guides will be self toured unless an appointment is made through
the Chamber of Commerce for a guided walking tour.
WHAT IS THE LENGTH OF THE ROUTE?
1.2 Miles
WHAT STRUCTURES WILL WE ACTUALLY GO IN?
The Old Courthouse Museum: All walking tours will start with an
overview of early Monroeville with a look at the courthouse square
model, which is part of the courthouse exhibit in the downstairs
gallery.
WHERE IS THE TOUR ADVERTISED?
Monroeville is one of 30 cities participating in this statewide
effort, coordinated by the Alabama Bureau of Tourism & Travel. The
Saturday Walking Tours are advertised by the State of Alabama Bureau
of Tourism & Travel, in newspapers owned by the Retirement Systems
of Alabama.
WHAT IF IT RAINS?
If it is just a gentle rain, we will try to continue the tour.
Umbrellas will be available. If it is a hard rain, please cancel the
tour.
CLOSEST PLACES FOR LUNCH, AFTER THE TOUR:
In town, the Courthouse Cafe', the Mockingbird Grill, and Mel's.
Within two miles of town: Radley's Fountain Grille and various fast
food places.
Through the Chamber of Commerce, each tour participant will receive
a visitor package, which includes a map, restaurant list, and coupon
sheets.
CLOSEST PLACES TO BUY ANTIQUES:
Maycomb Mall, open Saturday's from 11:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m.,
except for the first Saturday of the month, which is the day of the
antique auction in Bermuda (neighboring Conecuh County). Some
antiques are also available in town at Magnolia Cottage and Pine
Tree Antiques on Alabama Avenue.
