onroeville, the county seat of Monroe County, combines the conveniences and amenities of an urban lifestyle, with the charm of a small town. Other incorporated municipalities include Beatrice, Excel, Frisco City and Vredenburgh. The Monroeville Area Chamber of Commerce, with offices at
63 North Mount Pleasant Street, on the
Square in Downtown Monroeville, serves the entire county and maintains information on major employers, area businesses, civic clubs, city/county officials, legislative contacts, demographics, visitor and relocation packages, and news releases. In 2004, the Monroeville Area Chamber of Commerce became part of the University of Alabama's Entrepreneurial Research Network, a new small business initiative.
The Chamber also works with the Alabama Tombigbee Regional Planning Commission on business development, as well as with the University of South Alabama Small Business Development Center. The Chamber annually sponsors a county-wide leadership/community development program, Monroe County "Leadership Now", which is beginning its fourteenth year. The chamber publishes an annual Community Calendar of Events (to see it click on "Year at a Glance" or "Calendar of Events" for a month-by-month view of events). The Chamber of Commerce also works with the Alabama Bureau of Tourism & Travel to promote tourism in the county, as well as with the Monroe County Tourism Board. The chamber maintains a list of available industrial properties within the county (view these under "Business") and works closely with the Alabama Development Office and the Economic Development Partnership of Alabama.
