The Monroeville/Monroe County Chamber of Commerce was pleased to host a ribbon cutting for The Junction in Frisco City. The Junction is a Revive Frisco City project and serves as a Peddler’s Market and Thrift Store for the community.

Healthcare and Community Service Tour

Yesterday, the Monroe County Leadership Now class had an insightful and engaging day exploring healthcare and community services in our area!

The day kicked off at the Monroe County Public Library with Angie Snyder, followed by a visit to City Hall, where participants met with Mayor Charles Andrews, Probate Judge Sonya Stinson, Monroe County EMA Director Chuck Downing, Monroeville Main Street Director Anne Marie Bryan, and Police Chief Mandee Armstrong.

Next, the group visited Sheriff Tom Boatwright at the Monroe County Detention Facility before heading to Monroe County Hospital for an inside look at local healthcare services.

The tour continued at the Pilots for Christ Airport Hangar, where they learned about their impactful mission, and wrapped up at the Monroeville Area YMCA, where Ricky Powell shared insights on community wellness initiatives.

Montgomery who is a senior at Monroe County High School is the daughter of Tanequa Montgomery Rivers and Quincy Rivers and plans to attend Reid State Technical College. Lambeth who is a senior at Monroe Academy is the daughter of Michael and Angela Lambeth and plans to attend Coastal Alabama Community College. B oth students showed outstanding volunteerism through the Monroe County Youth Ambassador program.

The Monroe County Leadership Now class had a beautiful day for a history tour of Monroe County last Thursday. The historic places visited were: The Monroe County Museum, The Country Store and Dog-Trot House in Peterman, Rutherford Bros. Store and the First United Methodist Church in Franklin, The Masonic Lodge in Perdue Hill, and the site of the lost city of Old Claiborne. We also a wonderful lunch and talked of the history in Finchburg.

Monroe County Rodeo Dates Set for August 11&12 2023

After a successful event in 2022, the Monroeville/Monroe County Chamber of Commerce and the Kiwanis Club of Monroeville are excited to announce plans for the 3rd annual Monroe County Rodeo. This year’s rodeo, with Grand Buckle Sponsor South Alabama Kubota and Rental, will be held on August 11th and 12th in Frisco City on Snider Avenue.

The NCPRA (National Cowboy Pro Rodeo Association) sanctioned event, will be contracted by 5T Rodeo Company which is managed by world champion calf roper and Mississippi Hall of Fame inductee, Herbert Theriot.

The Monroe County Rodeo will provide fun for the whole family with gates opening nightly at 6 pm. An assortment of food venders, rodeo merchandise and a mechanical bull will be onsite nightly. The rodeo will begin at 7 pm with traditional rodeo competitions including barrel racing, team roping, calf roping, saddle bronc riding, breakaway roping, bareback riding, and bull riding.

Justalil’ Rodeo Company from Grady, Alabama will manage the Mutton Bustin’ (children riding sheep). Registration will open this summer for kids aged 4-8 years old who are interested in participating in the Mutton Bustin’. Other entertainment will be provided by a rodeo clown and there will be many crowd participation games nightly.

Jodi Chambers, Kiwanis Club President stated, “We are so excited to partner with the Chamber of Commerce again this year for the Monroe County Rodeo.” Penelope Hines, Chamber Executive Director replied, “Rodeo sponsorships are now available and interested businesses should contact the Chamber office at 251-743-2879. Sponsorship forms may be downloaded from the Chamber’s website monroecountyal.com”

Proceeds from the rodeo will benefit the Monroeville Kiwanis Club’s many children’s projects, including Angel Tree, Monroe County Library, Monroeville YMCA, Monroe County Education Foundation, and scholarships for local high school students. Kiwanis is a global organization of volunteers dedicated to improving the world one child at a time.

The Monroe County Leadership Now Class recently had a wonderful tour highlighting the different educational opportunities available in Monroe County. The group started the day with Superintendent Greg Shehan at the Monroe County Board of Education. We toured the Monroeville Career Tech School, Monroe County High School, Monroeville Elementary School, Monroe Academy, Coastal Alabama Community College, the Coastal Alabama Community College Welding Education Site, the Reid State CDL Training Site, and also met with homeschool parent Ashley Pharr.

Chamber Donates $5,000 to The Monroe County Public Library

The Monroeville/Monroe County Chamber of Commerce was pleased to recently make a donation of $5,000 to the Monroe County Public Library. The funds were raised from the Chambers annual Taste of Monroeville event. On hand for the picture was Chamber Board Treasurer Rhonda Chandler, Library Board President Shannon Hall Jones, Library Director Angie Snyder, Chamber Executive Director Penelope Hines, and Chamber Office Manager Kayla Bowen. Angie Snyder stated "We are thrilled the Chamber donated these funds, which will be used towards improvements of the children's section of the library."

They are a family owned ice cream & coffee shop located on the Downtown Monroeville Square. They serve 26 flavors of hand dipped ice cream, with several no sugar added flavors. They also serve a full menu of coffee items including Cappuccino, Latte, Espresso, Frappes and much more. Their coffee beans are roasted in home and served fresh. Debbi Jinright, President of the Kiwanis Club of Monroeville and Penelope Hines, Executive Director of the Monroeville/Monroe County Chamber of Commerce recently presented Frisco City Mayor Alan Lang with a $3,000 check. The gift of appreciation was given to the town of Frisco City for the site work they did in preparation for the Monroe County Rodeo that was held August 12 and 13. The Frisco City Council unanimously approved plans for the 3rd annual Monroe County Rodeo to be held on August 11 and 12, 2023.
